Governance and credible institutions are vital for any country’s stability and sustained development. A country without these key ingredients is like a house of cards. Any slight wind will bring it crumbling down. However, for these institutions to work, we must collectively believe in them and that they function well. For our beliefs in these institutions to remain concrete, they must objectively represent the population in a democratic society. The integrity and efficiency of a nation’s civil service are paramount for its people and the long-term welfare of the people.

The Trump administration’s proposal to reintroduce “Schedule F” directly threatens this integrity and efficiency. Drawing from my own experience working for a government and country that suffered similar reforms, I will illustrate the profound and lasting damage such policies can inflict. This article highlights the urgency of preventing this disaster by voting in the November 2024 federal elections for the Democratic Party candidate, Joseph Biden.
